|sanskaravatara||12:23 pm - hello everyone:|
hello Baba community.
i am writting in hopes of doing a little networking today. so, if this doesn't apply to you per se, but possibly someone else you may know in the community, by all means please send it forth.
my name is tara. i'm 21. i'm desperatly trying to get to India as soon as possible.
over the past six months i've had an incredibly hard time with anything that doesn't have to do with India or Baba. this is very new to me (not Baba, but the urgency). i've come to complete awareness that it is TIME FOR ME TO GO.
However. i'm slowly working on getting the money to go, which is my biggest holdback right now. i work fulltime, but i'm also currently in training for a new career, have an apartment and bills, old debt, and unfortunatly, can't really ask for any financial assistance from the 'rents.
and thats ok, but i'm first wondering if anyone here knows of anyway that i might be able to get the ticket for a little cheaper. i checked on a few online flight searches, but if theres anything else i'm missing, please lemme know!
the other question, and this is the real one: is there anyone who is planning on going in approx. 4-6 months or so? or anywhere in that time vicinity?
i have a very dear friend who has expressed a great interest in joining me, who is learning about Baba and anxious to find his own with Baba soon.
but neither of us have ever been, and i do not want to make my first time journey there without the company of someone a bit more familiar with it than i.
so if anyone is going, knows of anyone going, or has any contact info or absolutly anything at all for me, please let me know and it is so greatly appreciated.
you can either write back here or my email is email@example.com and we can go from there.
i don't get to check email often so if an immediate response doesn't take place, worry not, i shall respond!!!
thank you all SO MUCH. JAI BABA
Current Mood: DESPERATE
I'll try to remember to check w/ my Dad soon about where he got us our tickets to India-- he used some broker in NY or something and aparently got a very sweet deal. If you don't hear from me soon comment back to remind me, I'm a bit busy right now.
I feel like I once read a book that had some travel tips for going to India for Baba lovers. I wonder if such a thing would come up on google at all? Maybe one day I should write one.
I'm trying to think of some other ways you could try to find fellow pilgrims ;) to travel to India with, since this community is a bit small. Are you near any of the actual Centers?
lol at your email address, btw
and i agree, i'll try to google it, but if it doesn't exist yet you should get on that one right away. (hehe)
no, i live in connecticut. so the closest i've got is a small community in cambridge massachusets.
i found an interesting flight search last night on www.indiatravelite.com and am waiting to hear a few price quotes back from them-but if you could ask your father that would be awesome and totally appreciated.
Dad told me it's Four Seasons Travel in New York, and the agent he recommends is called "Verinder" (sp?)
I googled it but the website seems to have disappeared, which is a bad sign, bu the contact info brought up in google's cache was
319 West Church Street
Elmira, New York 14901
Toll Free: 800-253-0677
So hopefully they're still around? Anyway Dad says it got us a really good deal on our tickets last Christmas, he probably booked them around August I think? Hope you can find them!
I also googled "travel tips 'baba lover'" and got a mention of a book, Let's Go to Meherabad!
though the version listed dated from 1985 so might be a bit out of date. ;) Published in Paperback by Meher Baba Information (June, 1985) and by Bhau Kalchuri, might help you find it. The Sheriar Bookstore here in MB didn't have it listed on their site, but the Love Street Bookstore
(323-731-3737) listed it.Aimed at devotees of Avatar Meher Baba, this little book is an invaluable resource for first-time visitors to Baba's Samadhi (tomb) and the Pilgrim Center at Meherabad, Ahmednagar in the Maharashtra state of Cental India (about 8 hours East of Bombay by car). It provides background on the site and the normal routine of this holy place as well as basic etiquette information. Bhau Kalchuri, the author, is one of the few remaining "close ones" who actually lived with Meher Baba in and around Meherabad (and in neighboring Meherazad). His style is enthusiastic and easy to understand. If you're a Baba lover going to India for the first time, read this book!
Hope that helped and when in doubt, google! :)
thank you so much! i can't tell you how awesome this is!
what a big help you are!
did you try to contact that travel agency or anything? have you made any progress on trying to get your tickets? I'm trying to plan another trip right now actually and I was just curious as to whether I should follow the tips I gave you!! (ps it looks like I'll either be going right after Christmas thru early January, or I'll go the very end of May.)

it sure would be an adventure! ;)
